Project Overview

Background and Challenge

Luboo, established in 2018, aimed to provide parents peace of mind by offering a location-tracking solution for children in outdoor settings like theme parks. The product comprised an IoT wristband tracker, a mobile app, and backend services. The project gained traction through trials conducted in numerous theme parks in the US and Australia.

Unfortunately, in 2020, the pandemic halted theme park visits. However, Luboo found an opportunity to repurpose its product for the aged care sector. Their new objective became providing peace of mind to families and caregivers of dementia residents.

The challenge was adapting the solution for aged care and designing a user-friendly interface for their staff with limited technical training. We also reconsidered alert methods, favouring SMS and phone calls over push notifications.

Processes and Solutions

I was tasked with developing a new solution leveraging existing infrastructure. Initially, we were instructed to reuse existing services and user interfaces wherever possible. However, after carefully comparing the different use cases, I recommended creating a brand-new interface.

One key consideration was the target audience, which in this case, the aged care staff. Recognising that they often face time constraints and may have limited technical training, I prioritised designing a quick, easy-to-use, intuitive interface that the staff could easily understand.

I also evaluated the optimal use of alerts. While push notifications were effective in the Luboo theme park solution, I believed that SMS and phone calls would be more reliable for reaching aged care staff, considering the potential risk of missed or overlooked push notifications.

Considering all these factors, I introduced an onboarding process to reduce the friction of using the platform. As a result, I crafted a highly functional, cost-effective, and user-friendly solution that meets the specific needs of aged care staff and enhances their experience while using the system.
